What immediately stood out to me about Dr. Cornelius was his communication and bedside manner. A lot of surgeons are highly skilled, but not all take the time to thoroughly explain things in a way that truly makes patients feel comfortable and informed. Dr. Cornelius absolutely does. He spent extra time with me at every visit, explained everything thoroughly and in detail, answered every question I had, and made sure I truly understood what was going on rather than just rushing through the appointment.
He gave me honest, expert guidance from day one. When discussing treatment options, he carefully explained the pros and cons of rehab versus surgery and never pressured me in either direction. He was extremely transparent about the fact that these types of injuries are often different than what the MRI shows and repeatedly explained what he expected they might find during surgery while preparing me for all possible outcomes. That level of honesty and professionalism gave me tremendous confidence and trust in him.
Even during procedures, he communicated exceptionally well. He talked me through the injection in the bottom of my foot, made sure I was comfortable, and consistently demonstrated patience and compassion throughout the process.
The surgical experience itself was outstanding. From the nurses to the anesthesiology team to the post-operative care and instructions, everything felt organized, professional, and genuinely patient-centered. You can tell Dr. Cornelius has built a high-level team around him.
Obviously, surgical skill and expertise are the most important qualities in a surgeon, and Dr. Cornelius clearly has both. But what truly separates him is his ability to communicate, educate, and make patients feel comfortable and cared for during a stressful process. In today’s healthcare environment, that combination is rare.
I never felt rushed, dismissed, or like “just another patient.” I truly felt like he cared about getting me the best possible outcome and helping me fully understand every step along the way.
